I'd had a rough time on the Harris case, but I knew things weren't going to get any smoother when she walked in. She had a pair of legs like a glass of ice cold lemonade after clearing brush, and she smelled of money, trouble, and expensive perfume, though not in that order. When I rose to take her coat, she looked up at me with the kind of innocent look in her eyes that true innocents didn't know they'd ever have to use.

I don't know what I'm reading, but I like it anyway.

Nice work. Very noir/hardboiled detective novel. I likes it.

I was just going to say, the text should have been white-on-black...

I've decided to become a hard-boiled private dick, so I'm practicing my monologuing. I assume that all the detecting is pretty easy and I can pick that up on the job.

Sounds like a plan. Watch out for those dames, though.
